In and Out of the Studio: Anna's Scarf

Artist Statement

The first time I sat at a loom, I felt I had "come home". After 20+ years of weaving, I still feel that way - maybe even more so!

My first weaving class was at Moore College of Art and Design. I continued to study by reading books and taking classes through the Phila. Guild of Handweavers.

I have a small studio in my home - a former garage in what used to be called a row home. I feel very fortunate to have dedicated space in my little house! The studio (or loom room) holds 2 looms, 2 sewing machines, a serger, a coverstitch machine, most of my yarn stash (Is there ever enough room for one's stash?), and accessory equipment.

I work mostly with cotton (for towels) and tencel, wool or wool/silk for scarves and shawls. I enjoy making items that can be used or worn. There is something very special about something handmade and I hope that when someone wears or uses something I've created, that the joy I feel is passed along to them.
